Mr. Editor:

Regarding the interesting interview published by DF with the President of the Chilean Chamber of Commerce in the United States, Patricio Sepúlveda, it is important to highlight that the double taxation agreement between both countries, which entered into force this year, will increase the migration of investments (and individuals) from Chile to the United States.

So far this year, we have observed strong interest in exploring new opportunities in the United States, diversifying portfolios—not only in passive or real estate investments, as has been the trend since 2019, but also in operational businesses across various industries, taking advantage of the benefits provided by the agreement and local opportunities.

As occurred with the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement, this new treaty is driving investment by offering benefits and reductions in corporate tax rates, enabling better structuring of investments and their returns. The agreement provides greater legal certainty regarding the tax implications associated with establishing operations in the United States, both for investments and for individuals who, for various reasons, choose to reside permanently in that country.
